Virginia Mae Wharton was born April 20, 1928 in Bumpersmill, Tennessee the daughter of Willie and Tillie Brandon. Virginia was educated in the Bumpersmill School System. She relocated with her family to Indianapolis where she united with Seven Star Missionary Baptist Church. As a member, she was active in the choir and as a member of the usher board. Virginia was employed as a machinist with RCA, she retired in 1992 after 23 years of service. Virginia loved singing, playing bingo, cooking, dressing up for Galas and worshipping the Lord. She was easy to talk to, and very friendly. She was regarded as the “strength” of her family and a mother to many. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Virginia departed this life on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Clyde Wharton III; sons, Marvin Wharton and Clyde Wharton, Jr.; brothers, Cecil Brandon, George Brandon and Tommy Brandon; sisters, Sudie Brandon, Hattie Brandon, Betty Brandon, Nello Brandon, Alberta Brandon and Cassie Brandon. Left to cherish her memories are her sons; Freddie Wharton and Larry Wharton (Jackie Williams) daughters; Laura Wharton (Glen Alexander) Houston, TX and Rebecca Wharton (Andre' Hendon); grandchildren; William “Mooney” Wharton, Bryant Wharton, Andrea “Tink” Wharton; Raykisha “Tootie” Wharton, Clyde “Bay Boy” Wharton III, Dorien Wharton, Kevin “Fatz” Williams, Teddy Williams, Larry “Boo” Wharton, Jr., and Tambra Wharton; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
