James M. Wake

February 8, 1958 — October 27, 2019

Mr. James Mackinley Wake, Jr. (Jimmy) age 61, crossed over on October 27, 2019.  Jimmy was born to James and Louise Wake Sr. On February 8, 1958 at Medical College Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.  He was the fourth child after his parents lost three children prior to his birth. So, needless to say Jimmy was a bit spoiled by all of the family especially both grandmothers, Susie and Sophronia.

He attended Rappahanock Community College and was a graduate of the class of ‘76 at Middlesex High School Salude, VA.  He had a brilliant mind. He would be able to read articles and almost recite them verbatim. He had a great love for sports especially the New York Knicks, Baltimore Orioles, Minnesota Vikings and NASCAR (Ford was his car of choice.) Throughout life he was met with many challenges, but he never gave up. Most of all, his family never gave up on him/God.

His name stemmed from his father’s favorite Uncle Jimmy Wake. However, he received a double whammy by receiving his grandfather’s first name as his middle name. Anyone that knew the history in the Middlesex County area, knew Jimmy and Mack Wake.  As life proceeded, Jimmy moved from Southern Virginia to Indiana.  He was not known by a lot of people in the city of Kokomo, but those that knew him saw his infectious smile. He never met a stranger and maintained that southern courtesy.

He was proceeded in death by his mother and father both in 1995.  Those that are left to cherish his life are Greg L. Wake Sr. (Brenda,) brother of Fairmount, IN, Mildred L. Wake, sister, Kokomo, IN, two nephews Greg L. Wake Jr., Mitchell, three nieces, Ebonie Hawkins (Deshawn,) Tasha Royal (Ryan,) and Logan. He also has three great nieces, Brooklyn, Raelynn, and Serenity and a host of cousins.

Funeral Services for Mr. Wake will be at 12 Noon Saturday November 2, 2019, with visitation beginning at 11:00 am until time of services at the Christ Temple Church, 1401 South Adams Street, Marion, Indiana  46953.  Elder Greg L. Wake, Sr. will serve as Officiant and Eulogist.  Floral tributes may be delivered to the church beginning one hour prior to time of calling.

Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 2:00 until 3:00pm at First Baptist Church of Harmony Village in Middlesex Co., Virginia.   Interment will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery

Arrangements are entrusted to Bluitt and Son Funeral Home.   www.bluittandson.com
