Born February 21, 1939 to the late George Calvin and China (Crawford) Calvin in Tupelo, MS. James was a member of First Baptist Church of North Indianapolis for over 40 years and served on the Usher Board. He assisted in cooking for the homeless and was known for his barbecuing at the church. He was an avid fisherman. James was preceded in death by his parents. James leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Perlita H. Calvert; sons, James Calvert, Jr., Adam J.J. Davis and and Joe Calvert; daughter, Arica M. Johnston (husband Jeff). Service Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. with calling from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at First Baptist Church of North Indianapolis, 880 W. 28th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208. Pastor Ivan Hicks is officiant and eulogist. Interment at Washington Park East Cemetery. Masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed.
