To WATCH service LIVE click here! GERRY GUNNINGS STROMAN transitioned the evening of April 25, 2021, 8:38 p.m. at Community Howard Hospital in Kokomo, In. She was born to the late Garfield and Marie Webb Gunnings, June 13, 1952 in Gastonia, N.C. One Sister, Ann and four Brothers, Robert, Willie, Noverl and Dr. Thomas Gunningspreceded her in death. She received her elementary education through the Gastonia,, N.C. educational system where she graduated from Ashley High School. She matriculated at Winston-Salem University where she received a B.S.Degree in Elementary Education. In 1977 she received a Masters of Arts Degree from Michigan State University. She was married to Willie E. Stroman who survives and both are parents one Daughter, Amber F. Stroman. She was also blessed with two God-Daughters, TishWaggoner-Kokomo and Adrienne Perkins of Gastonia, N.C. GERRY is also survived by One Sister; Viola Reid (Gene) of Gastonia, N.C. along with three loving Grandchildren; Jaylen, Amara Stroman and Ke'AriBenson. One Sister-in-law; Dr. Barbara Byrd Gunningsand Special Nieces; Dr. Sonya Gunnings-Husband (Delbert), and Loretta Starr and a host of other Nieces and Nephews. Gerry's dedication to her community was deep-rooted and exemplified by her involvement in the following organizations, to name a few; Second Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Pastor's Aide and also chaired several committees. She will be remembered for facilitating her Pastor, the Rev. Dr. William J. Smith, Jr's 20th year Celebration of being in the Ministry. She also served on Second Missionary Baptist Church's Personnel and Board of Education Committees. She also gave of her time and talent to the MLK,JR. Membership Comm., Rotary Int'l., Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority, Inc. Omicron Phi Omega Chapter of which she is the current President. She is also the past President of the Taylor Comm. Board of Trustees, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Howard Co. and a member of Indiana Black Expo., Kokomo Chapter, NAACP,the Allocation Committee for the United Way of Howard Co. and many other Community and Faith-Based Organizations. Gerry Gunnings Stroman's Celebration of Life will be Sat. May 1, 2021 beginning at 11:00AM with PastorRev. Dr. William J. Smith Jr. Officiating and Rev. Dr. Robert A. Lee serving as Eulogist. A Visitation is scheduled for Fri. April 30th from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at Second M.B.C. A Memorial Tributepresented by the A.K.A.'s will commence at 10:15AM Sat. prior to the Celebration Of Life Service. Services of Comfort are provided by Bluitt and Son Funeral Home whose website www.bluittandson.com, and FaceBook page can be accessed at 10:15 AM Sat. morning for Livestreaming of the entire services. Final Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery 1219 North Morris St. Gastonia, N.C. 28059.
