George T. VanSickles, Jr., 70, passed away Sunday, Sept. 27th at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. Born December 4, 1949 to the late George T. VanSickles, Sr. and Hazel (Hughes) VanSickles in Indianapolis, IN. His education included IPS School 39, Arsenal Technical High School and Ball State University. George owned his own business, VAS and Associates. It was affectionately called “The Total Communication Company”. He did Graphic Design, Marketing and Photography until his health declined. George was a lifetime member of St. John's Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Men's Ministry and Spiritual Boot Camp. He was on the board of the United Northeast Community Development Corporation. George was a champion for voter's rights. Participating in the national, regional and local levels, he has been a member of the N.A.A.C.P. for over 40 years and in the early 90’s he was vice president of the local Indianapolis chapter. George was a Precinct Committee person in the sixth ward, Executive Director for the Glenn Howard Junior Golf Program for 25 years benefiting the Cosmo Knights Scholarship Fund, IBE History Committee Volunteer, POWERtalk International Member and Convention Coordinator, Publisher of Soul Bag News Magazine and a member of Operation Breadbasket that was founded by the Reverend Jesse Jackson. George was a Civil Rights Advocate since high school, Public Servant and a Photo Journalist even during his high school years. He enjoyed cooking and presenting his baked macaroni and cheese for the Annual Gourmet Gents Celebration, throwing birthday parties for HIMSELF, entertaining family and friends, public speaking, computer graphic arts, photography and he was a FASHION ICON. He was timeless, ageless to even his closest friends whom many of them didn’t know his age until later in life. He was forever young. George was preceded in death by his parents, George T. VanSickles, Sr. and Hazel VanSickles and sister, Sylvia June Page. George leaves to cherish his many memories his daughter Nicole L. Reid of Indianapolis. The family would like to give a special thanks to Eskenazi Hospital, St. Vincent Hospital, Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana and Brookdale Robin Run Health Center. Graveside service Monday, October 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Sutherland Park Cemetery, 4140 Millersville Rd., Indianapolis. Interment at Sutherland Park Cemetery.
